fishing.digital is an independent fishing media site. We’re committed to transparency about how this site is financially supported, and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) requires publishers to disclose any compensated relationships with the products and services we feature. This page explains exactly how that works on fishing.digital.
The short version
fishing.digital participates in several affiliate advertising programs. When you click certain links on the site and then purchase a product or service through that link, fishing.digital may earn a small commission at no additional cost to you. These commissions help fund the site’s ongoing content production, hosting, and editorial work. They do not change the price you pay, and they do not influence which products we recommend.
Affiliate programs fishing.digital participates in
Amazon Associates
fishing.digital is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate, fishing.digital earns from qualifying purchases. Amazon and the Amazon logo are trademarks of Amazon.com, Inc. or its affiliates.
eBay Partner Network
fishing.digital is a member of the eBay Partner Network. When you click on an eBay link from this site and make a qualifying purchase, fishing.digital may earn a commission. eBay links are typically marked as sponsored in their HTML attributes.
AvantLink
fishing.digital participates in the AvantLink affiliate network, which connects publishers with retailers in the outdoor industry. When you click a link to one of AvantLink’s partner merchants from this site and make a qualifying purchase, fishing.digital may earn a commission.
Other affiliate programs
fishing.digital may from time to time participate in additional affiliate programs through networks such as ShareASale, CJ Affiliate (Commission Junction), Impact, and direct merchant partnerships. Where these relationships exist and we link to a partner product, we disclose the relationship using standard rel=”sponsored” or rel=”nofollow” link attributes in compliance with FTC guidelines and search engine best practices.
How we choose what to recommend
Editorial independence matters to us. The presence or absence of an affiliate relationship with a brand does not determine whether or how we cover that brand’s products. Our gear recommendations are based on a combination of:
- Three decades of professional fishing journalism experience
- Hands-on testing and use in the field where possible
- Reputation among working charter captains, guides, and tournament anglers
- Manufacturer specifications, warranty terms, and customer support track record
- Aggregated user reviews across multiple retail platforms
- Price-to-performance value for the angler’s actual use case
If a product we’d recommend isn’t available through any of our affiliate partners, we still recommend it. We’d rather earn a reader’s trust over the long term than push a mediocre product for a commission.
What an affiliate link looks like
You don’t need to do anything special to identify affiliate links on fishing.digital. They look exactly like any other link on the site. However, on most pages with affiliate links you’ll find:
- A short disclosure notice near the top of the article noting that the page contains affiliate links
- Standard rel=”sponsored” or rel=”nofollow” attributes on outbound affiliate links
- A link in the site footer that brings you back to this page
You are never obligated to use any of our affiliate links. You can always navigate directly to a retailer like Amazon.com or eBay.com and purchase the same product. The site simply does not earn a commission in that case.
Sponsored content and product reviews
From time to time, fishing.digital may receive complimentary product samples from manufacturers for the purpose of review. In all such cases, we clearly label the resulting article as Sponsored or note the gifted nature of the product in the article itself. Receiving a product sample does not obligate us to provide a positive review.
fishing.digital may also occasionally feature sponsored giveaway contests in partnership with manufacturers. These will be clearly identified as Sponsored by [Brand] in the contest’s promotional materials and rules.
Cookies and tracking
Affiliate programs typically use cookies to track which referrals come from this site. These cookies are set by the affiliate network or merchant when you click an affiliate link from this site. fishing.digital does not see your personal purchase information — only aggregate referral statistics. For more information about how data is handled, please see our Privacy Policy.
