November 2025 — Florida Keys: Sailfish Season Begins, Wahoo Continues, Fall Flats Excellent. November is a late fall month with water in the 64-72°F range — flounder peak; seatrout deeper; first sustained cold fronts. Here’s the full breakdown of what’s biting, where to fish, and the most productive tactics.
What’s Biting — November 2025
Primary targets this month: Sailfish, Grouper, Snapper, Wahoo.
Sailfish
Sailfish around the reef edge 4-8 miles off Islamorada, the Marathon Hump, Wood’s Wall off Key West, and the Tennessee Reef. Slower season — fish are scattered. Live bait and high-speed trolling both produce.
Grouper
Grouper on the deep reef in 80-180 feet — goliath, gag, red, and black grouper around offshore wrecks and ledges. Live pinfish, large cut sardines, or jigs on 50-80 lb tackle. Federal Gulf season for gag and red grouper varies — verify NOAA/FWC dates. Goliath grouper catch-and-release only.
Snapper
Snapper bottom fishing on the patch reefs and bridge pilings — yellowtail, mangrove, mutton, lane, and red snapper at different depths — vermilion, lane, and mangrove snapper open year-round in most areas. Lighter tackle (20-30 lb), 3/0-5/0 hooks, cut squid or live shrimp.
Wahoo
Wahoo on the Marathon Hump, Wood’s Wall, and the offshore wrecks at high-speed troll. High-speed troll (12-15 knots) with heavy lures (Marauders, Yo-Zuri Bonita), or live bait at slower speeds. Wire leader essential — 80-130 lb single-strand or coated.
Water Conditions & Patterns
Water temperatures are running 64-72°F. Flounder peak; seatrout deeper; first sustained cold fronts. Bridge fishing in the Keys is driven entirely by current; slack water is dead. Outgoing tide through the channels is the prime tarpon window.
Check the NOAA marine forecast and tide charts before launching. Wind direction often matters more than wind speed for inshore fishing — clean water beats churned water nine times out of ten.
Tactics & Tackle for This Month
- Mullet run. Massive bait migrations trigger feeding frenzies — every predator follows. Target inlets, passes, and beach troughs.
- Topwater dawn. Fall coolness extends the topwater window — walk-the-dog baits produce explosive strikes.
- Front timing. 24 hours before a cold front is typically lights-out; the day after is often slow as fish reset.
November Outlook
Late fall — final striper runs, flounder migration peaks, first sustained cold fronts.
Regulations Reminder
Red Snapper: federal season; verify NOAA/state dates. Mangrove snapper: 10″, 5 per day. Always verify current state regulations before each trip — slots, bag limits, and seasons change.
