Striped Bass
Striped bass at Great South Bay (the historic LI striper fishery), Western LI Sound, the North Shore beaches (Eatons Neck, Sunken Meadow), Peconic Bay, Block Island Sound, and Plum Gut. Live bait (eels, bunker), trolled tubes and parachutes, or surface plugs at the rips. Peak season — fish actively feeding.
Fluke
Fluke (summer flounder) on Great South Bay, Peconic Bay, the North Shore harbors (Mount Sinai, Port Jefferson), the south shore beaches, and the inshore wrecks. Bluefish at Great South Bay, the inlets (Fire Island, Jones, Moriches, Shinnecock), the surf, and Western LI Sound in summer. Surface plugs (poppers, walking baits), metal lures (Hopkins, Kastmasters), or chunked bunker. Wire leader essential — bluefish teeth shred mono and fluoro instantly.
