Primary targets this month: Largemouth Bass, Crappie, Channel Catfish, White Bass.
Largemouth Bass
Pre-spawn / spawn largemouth. Target the standing timber across the entire lake (Lake Fork is known for its preserved standing timber from when the lake was flooded in 1980), the deeper creek arms (Birch, Mustang, Coffee, Caney), the main lake humps and points, and the grass edges — Lake Fork has produced more 13+ lb bass than any lake in Texas. Big swimbaits (Megabass Magdraft, Huddleston), jerkbaits (Lucky Craft Pointer), Texas-rigged worms (10″ Power Worm in red shad/Junebug), and big lipless cranks (Strike King Red Eye Shad). Peak trophy season — 10+ lb fish documented every year.
Crappie
Crappie spawn on the standing timber (the lake’s signature feature), the creek arm brush piles, the deeper main lake brush, and the dock structure — peak winter and early spring spawn. Schools move into 3-8 feet of water around brush and bedding cover. Small jigs (1/16-1/32 oz Bobby Garland Baby Shads in mono-bait colors), live minnows under slip floats, and spider rigs trolled along structure edges. Limit fishing easy.
Channel Catfish
Channel catfish on the deeper main lake basin, the river channel, and the creek arm mouths — drift fishing with cut bait. Stink bait, chicken liver, cut shad, or nightcrawlers on the bottom. Slip sinker rigs in current; just-enough-weight rigs in slack water.
White Bass
White bass on the upper Sabine River arm in spring (March-April spawn run), the open lake schooling in summer (chasing shad). Open-water schooling — chase breaking fish with small swimbaits, slabs, and topwater.
